Finding a Posture Expert

Correcting posture can be complex. There is much to know about how posture works and how to best correct it. You may have seen hundreds of things to do at home to help improve posture. However, an expert trained in posture correction will lead you efficiently through the process. A true posture expert will substantially save you time and money, hastening your results.

Deciding on using a posture expert is one thing. Finding a posture expert is a daunting task, until now. The American Posture Institute or API is the world leader in training practitioners. They provide training that uses the latest research and science about posture. Through post-graduate education they certify posture experts in brain-based posture correction all over the world. Consequently, a practitioner certified as a posture expert through API is considered “best of the best”.

Below is an interview excerpt with co-founder of API Dr. Krista Burns, DC. She shares vital information on the importance of posture. Dr Krista explains how you can find a posture expert almost anywhere in the world!

Dr. Paul – Dr. Krista Burns holds a Doctorate in Chiropractic and in Health Administration. Co-founder of American Posture institute, certified posture expert, certified exercise professional, published author and researcher, featured on tv programs such as sports magazine, radio and natural health magazine.

Based on your level of knowledge and experience as a posture expert why is posture so important?

Dr. Krista – Posture is literally the structural framework of your body. Everywhere you go you take your posture with you. The question is what does your posture say about you? What does posture say about your health? When I say what does posture say about you, when people see you their first impression is your posture.

So when you present yourself to the world do you present yourself with a confident beautiful poised posture? Or do you have a closed posture that looks timid or closed off so people don’t want to approach you? What does your posture say about your health? Your health is based upon curves of the spine.

Increased curves in your spine it can lead to postural distortion patterns. The distortion patterns are directly correlated with headaches, migraines, neck pain, back pain. Other conditions like asthma and other physiological patterns can affect your health. Your posture is your structural framework of your body. As a result, it relates to your emotions, appearance and consequently your health and wellbeing.

I recently wrote a research study released in 2017 on clinical depression. It demonstrates that poor posture like forward rolled shoulders is actually a diagnostic factor of clinical depression. Meaning how you view yourself. The level of stress. Depression levels are increased with poor posture therefore, your likeliness of having depression is increased.

Explain how you train posture experts through API?

Dr. Krista – We have all heard the word posture. It’s ingrained in our minds thus, our physiology. The other thing you may have thought of is posture maybe a little boring. Classical posture education has been boring. You think about those old pictures of people walking with a book on their heads? That’s what we can associate with posture. The American Posture Institute goes to the next level of understanding of posture. We train on how posture affects the postural design of your body. It’s the structural framework. How you move within your environment and you perceive your environment. It’s how you interact with others and how they view you. Also, it’s how you can improve your health and wellbeing through that structural framework.

At API we train practitioners by giving them that next level of understanding of how important postural design really is. We go into the neurological, physiological and structural aspect of posture and how it is important to health and function. Many doctors and practitioners understand there is a connection between the brain and body resulting in ignoring the brain completely. They’re just looking at the structure not considering that neurology controls the structure.

Knowledge of neurology is attained through the certified posture neurology program. Therefore through this program we understand brain function in relation to the posture system. Focus on the brain instead of ignoring it to make long term neuroplastic changes. Neuroplastic changes means changing the brain to maintain long term posture correction results over the course of a lifetime.

How can someone find a posture expert who is certified by API?

Dr. Krista – They can send us an email at API@americanpostureinstitute.com and we would be happy to set them up with a local practitioner in their area.
